Process & Framework

Here you can learn about the path into psychotherapy – from the initial session to ongoing collaboration.

The Initial Session

The first step is often the hardest – and at the same time the most important. In the initial session (50 minutes), we get to know each other in a safe space. You tell me about your concerns, expectations, and what you hope to gain from therapy.

This first meeting also serves to experience my approach and clarify open questions. Afterwards, we decide together whether a collaboration feels right for both sides. Of course, this first meeting is already subject to the legal duty of confidentiality.

How does therapy work?

A therapy session lasts 50 minutes. How often and how long we meet is decided together based on your individual needs. Some concerns can be addressed in a few sessions, others require longer-term support.

At the beginning, we meet more frequently – usually weekly or every two weeks. As therapy progresses, the intervals often become larger, depending on what suits you.

Individual, couples, or family therapy?

Depending on the concern, systemic therapy works in different settings:

  • Individual therapy – a safe space for your personal topics
  • Couples therapy – working together on relationship topics and communication
  • Family therapy – systemic work with families and relevant significant others

Even in individual therapy, 'guests' are always welcome when it serves the purpose. For couples and family sessions, the framework (single or double sessions) is arranged by agreement.

What does therapy cost?

My fees are reduced in the status of advanced training under teaching supervision. An individual session lasts 50 minutes, couples and family sessions 90 minutes. The following rates apply to self-paying clients – reimbursement through health insurance is not possible in my current status.

Fee overview for the initial session and individual, couples, and family therapy
ServiceDurationFee
Initial session50 minutes€ 95
Individual session50 minutes€ 95
Couples or family session90 minutes€ 190

I offer a limited number of reduced social rates. Feel free to ask me about this if needed.

Does health insurance cover psychotherapy?

In Austria, there are generally three ways to finance psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy on health insurance

A limited number of therapy places are financed directly through health insurance. However, waiting times are long.

Partial reimbursement (Kassenzuschuss)

With fully licensed psychotherapists, a subsidy from health insurance (ÖGK, BVAEB, SVS) can be applied for. A medical certificate is required, which must be obtained before the second session.

Self-pay

Costs are covered privately. This offers full flexibility in choosing your therapist and scheduling.

Important note: As a psychotherapist in advanced training under teaching supervision, partial reimbursement through health insurance is not possible in my current status. In return, you benefit from reduced fees.

What applies if I cancel an appointment?

Since I reserve therapy time exclusively for you, I ask for your understanding that cancellations less than 24 hours in advance will be charged the full fee.
